    PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Before Joe Orton became London's hottest playwright, he and his partner Kenneth Halliwell expressed their frustrated artistic talents by remixing the covers of books from the Islington Public Library. After stealing a book, the couple would revise the cover art by way of collage, and then smuggle the remixed book back onto the shelves for unsuspecting patrons to discover.

Eventually arrested for "malicious damage" via an elaborate and essentially homophobic sting operation, Orton and Halliwell each spent six months in jail. Orton flourished in confinement, finding his voice as a writer. After release, he quickly rose to fame as a playwright. His scripts bristled with biting satire and Vantablack humor, both of which rise like cream in the revised cover of Agatha Christie's Poirot Investigates, reimagined with matrimonial cats as The Life of Chimneys.

Orton died at age 34 in a murder / suicide perpetuated by Halliwell. By that time, Orton had already become a gay working-class icon. In a macabre twist that I think Orton would appreciate, I've included a quote from his play Funeral Games.
